DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTITUTION

El Carme school is a semi-private religious school located in the region of Catalonia, in Spain. The school is situated in the city of Lleida, concretely in a neighbourhood called La Bordeta. The social context where the school is located is characterized by being a quiet neighbourhood 10 minutes on foot of the city centre of Lleida. It is described as being a medium-low socioeconomic area, where there are local shops and products. The students that come to the school are from families located in the same area.

The educational centre has students from 1 to 16 years old and the total amount of students is 620. There are 50 teachers working in the school. One of the main objectives in the School Educational Project in El Carme (PEC) is to improve the quality of inclusive education, in order to foster all the skills and capacities of each student. In this way, and according to the project we present, the school opts for supporting gifted students’ needs which are often disregarded.

The main aim of the school is to educate students in values to prepare them to face the society where we live in. Other main objectives of the school are to foster the participation between the students, to provide the adequate teaching and learning of the languages used to communicate, to value the different cultures, to favour the relationship between the school and the families, to promote the effort and personal improvement of the students and to help students to choose the best options in their learning process.
