DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTITUTION
The Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (IPS) is an institution of public higher education (tertiary level) that began its activity in 1979 and consists of the following Schools: Agriculture, Sports, Education, Management and Technology and Health.
Is an institution of tertiary level, aimed at teaching, research, service to community and collaboration with national and foreign activities of common interest.
Attended by 574 students, is currently operating the degrees and master of First Cycle of Basic Education, Childhood Education, Social Education and Multimedia Production in Education.
In the Polytechnic we have, amoug other, a research Hub in Digital Literacy and Inclusion. This center is an extension of the research unit, Center for Research in Arts and Communication (Algarve), evaluated by the Foundation for Science and Technology with the classification of Very Good.
Thus, the working group promoted by this nucleus in Santarém is responsible for the development and promotion of research mechanisms in the following areas: digital literacy and inclusion of disadvantaged people in the labour market. Thus, responding to the societal challenges present in these areas of activity.
The general objectives of the Research Center: Digital Literacy and Inclusion are as follows:
1. To enhance the Scientific and Technological Research knowledge on Digital Literacy and Inclusion of disadvantaged people in the labour market.
2. To strengthen excellence in digital literacy as an effective strategy for labour market inclusion.
3. To test the effectiveness of innovative resources and methodologies through empirical scenarios as a mean to promote the employability of this target group.
4. To prototype an holistic inclusion support model, targeted to people with disadvantages, that can be globally replicated (e.g. companies, HEI’s, NGO’s, etc.) with practices, resources, methods, linkages and correlations, in digital literacy domain, towards a successful and sustainable social and labour inclusion.
