DESCRIPTION OF THE INSTITUTION
The University of Lleida (UdL) is a public and prestigious university that dates from 1297. Located in Lleida, we face the oldest university in Catalonia. It is one of the oldest universities in Europe and is part of the Iberus International Excellence Campus jointly with the public universities of Navarra, Zaragoza and la Rioja.
The UdL combines a long and fruitful university tradition with a young and dynamic structures that is firmly committed to quality training and research as well as to internationalization. Currently it is the fourth best university in the state in teaching and the fifth in performance and the seventh in research according to the U-Ranking 2019. Its strong point is the study of agrifood and forestry and be a world reference in food technology.
The main aim of the University of Lleida is the education of its students. We provide high standards of teaching with quality services throughout the university community that reach society beyond the campus gates. They will thus be able to develop both at a professional and personal level by following other educational, cultural or leisure activities, and by participating in the UdL to keep it a lively, ever-improving educational institution. Students who enjoy sport can become members of the clubs run through the Sports Service, which provides free access to competition sports and recreational activities.
The 27 departments that make up the UdL form a basic structure able to bring together the human capital needed for research. This structure is complemented by the INSPIRES and INDEST research centers, the UdL-IRTA Foundation, the IRBLleida Foundation and the Agri-food Science and Technology Park, which were jointly set up by the University of Lleida and a number of Catalan public institutions. The University also has a research support network designed to enable research groups to work together in providing scientific technical services.
The Catalan Government's Directorate General of Research has classified 44 UdL research groups in its consolidated category. This means they are officially recognised as groups of scientific excellence. These highly competitive groups and others belonging to the UdL receive resources both from national research finance agencies (DGICYT, CICYT, FIS, amongst others) and from the European Union. The structure of research groups also includes emerging groups belonging to the University. These resources make it possible to form groups of new researchers who are entitled to preferential financing from the UdL over a three-year period. They are thus able to train and improve so that they become competitive groups.
The group of researchers from the Universitat de Lleida that will participate in this project belong to the Department of Psychology. There is no tradition of researching in talented and gifted children at the University of Lleida. However, research team Neuropsychology, Genes and Environment (NeuroPGA) research team has initiated a PhD regarding this topic.
Regarding giftedness, our university has no specific program for talented and gifted students. However, we are aware about the importance of working adequately with this kind of students. That is why the NeuroPGA research team was interested in participating in the present project. We want to better understand talented and gifted students needs and improve the way our university deal with them.
